      Hi Lukas,

Hah, lucid dreaming is one of the most exciting phenomena in neuroscience! Lucid dreaming is when you are simply aware that you are dreaming (doesn’t happen to me often, frankly). I believe the general idea is one of the areas important for control of information processing in the brain typically switched off during dreams becomes active – part of the frontal cortex is one candidate – and this brain region activity is allowing you to be in a state quite different from normal dreaming, as it allows you to be conscious. It’s a fascinating topic, and there are also alternative theories here. Wikipedia actually has a good discussion of the condition, have a look – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dream#Scientific_research
