It would definitely be dementia – I really want there to be a cure for it because of how fast it’s spreading and how many lives it effects. I would give to an organisation like Alzheimer’s Research UK or the Medical Research Council (MRC)

      Hi Zedoyxz,

I am of the opposite opinion – I’d invest in research helping to equalise learning opportunities to mostly healthy but disadvantaged children in normal schooling, as well as that bringing back fundamental skills to those without them. I think the wider range of population is given access to skills to realise their full potential, the more likely it is that we will find cures for different diseases, including dementia. It’s better to prevent, not treat, so to speak. But if I was give a choice to just treat – I’d also spend the money on demetia research!

Hi Zedoyxz thanks for the question! I am really worried about our political landscape at the moment, both in the UK and abroad. There is a lot of ‘anti-intellectualism’ and a general mistrust of academics and what we have to say (just look at how people treat the issue of climate change). As such I would probably give my money to an educational charity of some kind. The one I personally have in mind is a small charity in London who promote science education called Sense About Science. I one raised money for them running a triathlon I believe so strongly in what they do. These guys do a lot of work fighting the good fight and making sure (1) science is promoted properly as a good thing, and (2) trying to make sure that the government forms policies based on evidence (i.e. science). A million pounds would do a lot of good in their hands, and it would be a fantastic long term investment.
