Oooo my perfect day. I think a perfect day would be being alert enough in the morning to do some writing (even my perfect day involves work because I just like it that much!). But then I’d get to put the work away at a decent time, cosy up with cups of tea, eat some Rocky Road mud cake, knit or play the Sims with Netflix on. Be totally relaxed, maybe go for a swim (and if it was super perfect my hair would stay dry the whole time!) or even a hike with my headphones on.
honestly, your question has relaxed me so much just answering it.

The best work day I could possibly imagine would be as follows. It would start with a really productive round of writing, a few really positive meetings with students and possibly some outreach (talking about science to schools). After these I would give a lecture so mind blowingly awesome students would cheer and line up to give me high-fives on my way out of the lecture theater. I would then manage to locate some chicken wings at the Roger Kirk canteen near my office for lunch which are really hard to come by because the university students tend to swarm through the canteen like locusts at lunch and eat them all. In the afternoon my boss, who is the Director of Teaching and Learning here at York, would swing by my office with a seal hand puppet he has called the ‘seal of approval’. He only gets this seal out for when people have done a really really good job, and I have never seen it (and am starting to take offense at this point). I never wanted to be in a position where my entire career is validated by a stuffed seal, but here we are.

      To me,

It’s a warm, but somewhat fresh, sunny day, where I locate myself early in the morning and do a good deal of writing on one of my papers (haha, it seems all the involved scientists share this wish :D). Then indeed I’d meet with my students and / or collaborators on a cool new project, where each of the elements necessary to start the study would be in place – we have a clear, super cool research question, we have the programs to administer the experiment as well as the equipment, in involves testing new potential ways of usiung such technology like virtual reality or robots in the service of improving learning, and our collaborators, whether they are teachers or doctors, are all on the same page as us, and we can start recruiting! And I finish the working day at 5pm (very early for scientists), go home cook myself some dinner, maybe go to the gym for a bit and then still have a bit of time to read a book and/ or spend time with my family. That’s my perfect day :))

My turn! my perfect day would be starting with a good cup of coffee and two slices of not-burn toasts. During the breakfast time, be able to set out the goals of the day and how to reach each to complete the day. Then when I am walking to the uni, I can see different animals (e.g. birds singing loudly and maybe squirrels busy with burying nuts or chasing after each others). Back to the lab, greeting times with my squirrels before any experiments start. Then i am happy to write something while I am playing some jazz music and eating chocolate. If possible, be able to concentrate on reading. Finally, finish a day with yoga and if the perfect day is a Friday, then a glass of whiskey would be great to call for the week.
