I have not done any direct work with animals (though who knows, maybe one day!). But I’m very fascinated by animal studies used to discover and understand psychological behaviour- something which has been a part of the history of psychology throughout I guess!
Research involving in animals has been important for establish some aspects of memory – have a look at some of the areas in this article in scholarpedia to get a better idea about the types of research where it was important – http://www.scholarpedia.org/article/Memory . In areas of research that I am particularly interested in, such as so-called selective attention or working memory, research with animals has been very informative. However, the populations with which I work are almost exclusively adults and children.
