That’s a good question. As a standard I like to have a fixed amount of six hours per day on weekdays no matter what. Whether that be at home or in the office because it gives me some structure. This includes not just my specific research but writing for other science related things, preparing for teaching classes or marking papers, preparing for conferences, doing science activities like this, and sometimes just responding to email after email.
But then on top of these often there’s a lot more due to pending deadlines, new ideas my supervisor pops up and throws my way, not to mention there’s always SOMETHING that needs to be written up or written down. On very busy days it could be 11 hour days back to back, which is happening a lot since I’ve had to start more data collection.
But then there are break days after lots of straight days of constant work where I’ll do nothing to give myself a break.
      It’s so varied I’m sorry I couldn’t give a straight answer!
