Dementia was a rally high priority topic when I first got into it (it still is!). The entire country wants to fund research for it and do something about it. Career wise it was a smart move, to focus on something everyone’s eye is on.
But it’s also the nature of the disease. I always wanted to focus not just on the mind but the thing which holds the mind- the brain. Dementia merges psychology and biology, shows how they impact each other, and because it’s becoming so immense it was also instantly interesting.
I never imagined I would become so deeply enveloped in it but then I also started seeing it happen to so many people I know and even though that wasn’t my original motivation it has become a big one now and pushes me to continue with it.
I also started seeing people in my family develop it and I wanted to learn more about how to make their lives easier.
