Great question! Memory is essential for almost every aspect of our everyday life, learned from early childhood onwards. We use our memory as a guide – a target – to pursue more experiences that we want, and less experiences that we don’t want. For this reason, memories are distributed throughout the brain – as key nuts and bolts of the brain circuits that are involved in everyday thinking, emotions and behaviour.
